A captivating car The standard Swift is a characterful city car, a quality that the Sport iteration builds upon in a very effective way. The core appearance is further enhanced by a big, bold black-mesh radiator grille, for instance, which is positioned at the end of a determined-looking bonnet. Either side, slinky headlights provide the car with all-seeing eyes whenever natural light begins to fail. And though a classy Pure White Pearl paint finish is applied at no extra cost, there are several gorgeous colour options to choose from. Champion Yellow, Burning Red and Speedy Blue are three examples – and if you opt for Flame Orange, the vehicle is provided with a contrasting black roof.
Lookin’ good The automobile’s sport body kit is further enhanced by colour-coded door handles and door mirrors. Of course, owners of a Flame Orange Swift Sport will be treated to black door mirror shells to match the roof. Speaking of which, the car possesses a ‘floating roof’ design, which is born of dark-toned A, B and C pillars.
Alloy allies The Suzuki Swift is fitted with 17-inch alloy wheels, which add considerable lustre to an already head-turning vehicle. Strong yet lightweight, these wheels help to deliver optimal performance and efficiency. They’re highly polished too, which adds a welcome finishing touch.
Easy access Thanks to its practical five-door body, this hatch makes it easy to access the cargo compartment – and for rear-row passengers to get in and out, especially as the doors open nice and wide.
What’s on the inside? The Sport Swift’s interior is a lot more spacious than one might expect. There’s plenty of room in the front, for instance – and a decent amount of space in the rear compartment, where a couple of full-sized travellers can be comfortably accommodated. Of course, the rearmost row is just as ideal for conveying three younger passengers. And while the boot might not be the biggest in this vehicle’s class, its 265-litre capacity is increased in no time at all to 579 litres once rear seats are dropped.
A sporty cabin We’ve already covered some of the car’s external attributes but does the sporty vibe continue inside? The answer is a resounding yes, particularly where front-row travellers are concerned. For a start, the driver is provided with keyless ignition, red-accented fuel, speed and oil gauges and a dimpled-leather steering wheel. And front-row travellers have super-sporty bucket seats to ease into.
Infotainment highlights A seven-inch touchscreen provides access to a number of useful features, including satellite navigation. And while you’re proceeding to your destination, a six-speaker sound system offers up plenty of audio-enjoyment options, including Bluetooth, which allows you to stream your favourite music and spoken word content.
Keep cool Thanks to digitally controlled air-conditioning and all-around electronically operated windows, getting a refreshing breeze to circulate around the cabin takes no time at all. And if you or any of your fellow travellers suffer from hay fever, an inbuilt pollen filter should help alleviate the worst of its symptoms.
Performance Underneath the bonnet is the Swift Sport’s beating heart: a 1.4-litre 103kW engine that puts out a peak torque of 230Nm. This four-cylinder unit is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, or optional six-speed automatic transmission (with paddle shifters). The vehicle returns a combined fuel-consumption figure of 6.1 litres per 100 km, and produces CO2 emissions from 141g/km.
Safety features When tested by ANCAP, the Swift Sport yielded a maximum five-star rating. It comes with passive safety features that include front, side and curtain airbags, five sets of three-point seatbelts and a pair of child-seat anchorage points. It also features several driver aids, including Electronic Stability Program and Anti-lock Braking System.
Reversing made easy Thanks to the inclusion of a reversing camera and parking sensors, backing the Swift Sport into even the tightest of spaces is made as simple as possible. This particular feature can be accessed via the vehicle’s navigation system.
Autonomous Emergency Braking Autonomous Emergency Braking is a smart technology that constantly monitors activity ahead of the vehicle. If an object is deemed to be too close (be it vehicular or otherwise), an alarm is sounded and appropriate braking pressure is automatically applied.
