A good-looking, well-built SUV The Vitara radiates a welcome feeling of reliability, partly due to its clever design, which perfectly reflects Suzuki’s reputation for producing SUVs that are built to endure. And this robustness is consolidated by an all-round attractiveness that helps the vehicle to make an impression wherever it goes. The Vitara’s presence is due partly to its elevated ride height, and also because of its muscular contours. Nevertheless, this SUV has plenty of practical attributes, beginning with the provision of easy access, thanks to a five-door body.
Fashionable flourishes It’s not just glossy 17-inch alloy wheels that add a touch of class to the Vitara. The vehicle also features a number of eye-catching chrome accents, which are perhaps most discernible on the vehicle’s front grille and fender. And if you decide to go for the Turbo trim, the Vitara’s alloy wheels sport a high-polish finish.
Vivacious Vitara This SUV boasts a Cool White coat of paint as standard. This means that even if you’re not prepared to spend a cent more than you need to, you’ll nonetheless be in possession of a chic-looking vehicle. That said, there is a range of optional colours to choose from, including Bright Red, Atlantis Turquoise Pearl and Solar Yellow, each of which comes with a contrasting Cosmic Black roof. And if you fancy going all-in on the Cosmic Black look, you can do just that.
Co-ordinated contrasts Regardless of which paint finish you decide upon, your Vitara features body-coloured fixtures such as door handles and bumpers. Meanwhile, Cosmic Black-coloured components – including door mirrors – come with the majority of optional exterior finishes.
Take a look inside The Suzuki Vitara’s lightweight doors open nice and wide, just short of 90 degrees, actually. Inside, the driver is provided with an adjustable seat and a rake-and-reach-adjustable steering wheel, so establishing a comfortable position shouldn’t present a problem. And since said position is elevated, the driver is afforded a good view of the way ahead. As this SUV can accommodate a quintet of six-footers, it represents a decidedly spacious automotive option for young families.
Cabin comfort All models include digital climate control, allowing you to react quickly to changing external temperatures. The car’s air-conditioning unit features a pollen filter too, thus providing at least a little bit of relief for allergy sufferers. And should you fancy the sensation of a cool breeze on your face, a push of a button will open the nearest window.
Flexible storage The Vitara’s 375-litre boot might not be much to brag about on its own, but once 60/40 split-folding rear seats are dropped, cargo capacity expands to a not-inconsiderable 1,120 litres. And if you prefer not to drop the rear bench, you can always push it forward to free up 710 litres of luggage space.
Music to your ears A four-speaker stereo is supplied with entry-level Vitara trims, while Turbo and Turbo AllGrip grades feature a six-speaker sound system. You can plug-and-play your compatible media devices via AUX and USB inputs – or stream music with Bluetooth, which also allows you to make and receive hands-free calls. What’s more, the inclusion of Apple CarPlay/Android Auto enables you to mirror your smartphone via the car’s touchscreen display.
Performance The standard Vitara runs on a 1.6-litre 86kW engine, which is attached to a five-speed manual gearbox. (Six-speed automatic transmission can be specified as an option, and comes as standard with Turbo/AllGrip grades.) This four-cylinder unit is the most fuel-efficient option, returning as much as 5.8 litres per 100 km and producing CO2 emissions from 136g/km. Turbo/AllGrip trims are powered by a 1.4-litre 103kW engine, which manages up to 5.9/6.2 litres per 100 km, while producing emissions from 138/145g/km.
Five-star safety Since it comes with a maximum five-star ANCAP rating, you can rest assured that the Vitara offers plenty of protection for travellers of all ages. Accordingly, its range of passive safety features includes seven airbags and all-around three-point seatbelts, as well as ISOFIX child-seat anchorage provision in the rear compartment.
Active safety features If you decide to purchase the Suzuki Vitara, you can expect to have numerous driver aids at your disposal, including Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Program and Hill-hold Control. Turbo AllGrip trims also feature Hill-descent Control, which allows controlled, safe descent, without the need for manually applied braking pressure.
Easy route management Thanks to the inclusion of satellite navigation, which is available with all models, planning each journey is a piece of cake. Just access this function via the touchscreen menu and you’ll be presented with easy-to-use maps, which appear courtesy of Google.
